About Us

Merrymaker opened its doors on September 29, 1979 on West Cary Street in Richmond, Virginia. Over the next thirty years, original owners Myra and Bill Warshauer established and nurtured longstanding relationships with the Richmond community and beyond, providing wedding invitations, birth announcements, party invitations, graduation announcements, and personalized stationery. The store was stocked with a variety of goodies, like JellyBelly jellybeans and stickers in the 80's, party supplies in the 90's and hundreds of invitation options. They were authorities on the etiquette and tradition of fine stationery and invitations.

In the spring of 2013, they handed the store over to current owners Heather Holub and Kelley Banks, Virginia Tech grads and architects. Through the summer and fall, Bill and Myra taught Heather the art and science of the stationery business. On weekends Bill showed Kelley how to work the foil stamp machine. Heather and Kelley bring their strong design background and personal love of paper to Merrymaker. They are passionate about beautiful and well-made objects, and populate the shop with favorites like Crane, Caspari, Cavallini, Field Notes, Blackwing and Leuchtturm, and new discoveries like Rigel Stuhlmiller notecards and Decomposition journals. Their mission is to provide a tactile alternative to the digital world, and be protectors and keepers of time-honored traditions like writing and drawing on paper!
